Bong Hits 4 Jesus

Summary
An 18 year old student displayed a 14 foot banner outside of his school that said "Bong Hits 4 Jesus." His principal ordered him to take the banner down but he didn't. When he refused he was suspended for 10 days because it violated a school policy on illegal drug promotion. It went to court where they ruled that his first amendment rights were not violated

Opinion
I think that schools often over react in situations like this because it has a drug reference. The banner was displayed off school grounds as a joke and a test of free speech and not a drug promotion. I think 10 days was too much and it did not need to go to court.

I dissagre with what you said. I beleive that the school had the right to go against him becuase it was during school hours and technicaly the school was still in charge of him, and it wasn't the most appropiate thing to say on a banner.

No, I disagree with your opinion. He shouldn't supposed to be doing those things right outside his school. I think that the school did the right thing and suspended him for ten days because it went against their school policies about drugs and he especially didn't listen to the principal to take it down.

I agree partially with what you said. The issue should not have gone to court because it's such a frivilous issue. Sure the student shouldn't have displayed the sign with drug refences but the school over reacted. I agree with the student being suspended but 1- days seems too long.

I would have to disgree as well. The student had no right to post up that banner. It probably was a joke in his eyes but the fact remain that heposted it up so that the whole town can see. Maybe that case went a little out of hand when it went to court but the schol should have deal with the student and his actions.

I also disagree with you. He should not be doing anything that even has to do with drugs, especially if it is in association with a religious figure. He was also warned before given a 10 day suspension. I can agree though that the case should not have moved to court. The schoo baord could have dealt with the situation.
