Enticing The Latinos

In the upcoming 2008 elections the candidates are greatly seeking votes from the Latino population. Currently Latinos occupy 12% of the United States population. They reside in the largest states as well, such as California, Texas, Florida, and New York. Many of the democratic candidates are focusing on the immigration issues that the polls show are the most common amongst Hispanics. This group of citizens are a great asset to those that are compaigining. Their expenditure in communities is very influential in gaining votes. Because of the immigration issues more and more Latinos are voting. If the candidates want to succeed in these upcoming elections they should definitely spend more effort on Latino communities.

Candidates with liberal beliefs towards immigration will win the majority of recent latino immigrants. Candidates with a firm belief on restrictions of immigration however will not get as many votes and will likely take their efforts elswhere.

In order to vote, it is required to be a US citizen. Although there are many latinos, are you sure they are all are US citizens?

I think it should be required to be a US citizen to vote

There's nothing wrong with getting Latinos to vote. Focusing on the immigrations issue to get Latino favor, however, probably means making immigration easier for them. That's a pretty controversial issue and will probably alienate other voters for that candidate.

everyone who votes should be a u.s citizen if you arent a u.s citizen you should not be able to vote

I believe that candidates are doing the right thing to influence the hispanic race to vote. The politicians aren't stupid and won't go after the hispanics who cannot vote its a waste of time for them.

Of course these candidates want your vote, but how do we know if these are qualified voters and citizens of the U.S.? Much more needs to be done to get votes, but immigration is such a sensitive issue that I think that this should not be such an "incentive" to get candidates' votes.

Ok, you have to be a citizen to vote. many of thease "Latinos" are not citizens, those who are might or might not care about it. (most likely do.) Canidates should keep in mind the rest of the population. Sure he or she can indorse a light immagration pocily, but think of how non latino americans will reaspond. the rest of America is not as acepting as you guys.

I think that the influence of Latinos voting is great, but I think that in order to vote, you must be a U.S. citizen, and if they're not, then they shouldn't be allowed to vote. If they really wanted to vote, they could go through the process to becomming a citizen, but that might be a long and dull process to fulfill.

If they're not a US citizen, why should they be able to vote? I think it's fair that way, but i do understand why they are trying to appeal to them.

I HARDLY doubt that Latinos occupy only 12% of the whole population, even so theres a good 20-30% of the voting population wasted. I think they should vote, perhaps maybe a special poll for foreign immigrants?

It seems wrong that politicians are trying to make it easier on the immigrants just to get their vote. I believe that you should be a citizen of the United States in order to be able to vote, its only fair.
