Toy Guns Banned in Azusa

In Azusa, California on Monday the City Council introduced a new law that banned the sale of imitation guns to children. The ordinance was unanimously approved by council members. However, it will not be in effect until revisions are approved at the next meeting. City officials are scared that an incident at Powell Elementary School could happen again. At Powell three kids carried toy guns that looked very similar to authentic firearms. A concerned janitor warned police leading to the boys a gun point. This misunderstanding and possible danger made the minds up for the council members.

I feel that the law is going over board. The incident that occurred at the elementary school was unfortunate, but the janitor could have taken it up with the principal first. Having play guns is a part of being a kid. The school should be the one to enforce that they are not brought to school. Even when the law is in full force, business owners will probably continue to sell toy guns.

I think that banning toy guns isn't necessary. The Powell incident shouldn't be an incident to determine what toys are and are not banned. I think that if a school personally doesn't feel comfortable with allowing kids to bring their toy guns or any toy weapons to school, then they should just make it a rule for their school .. not ban it from the city.

The City Council's reaction is extreme. Banning the toy guns to children would deprive them from experiencing what guns are like. Most children's toys are tools of educating, not influencing them to shoot someone in the future. It is not the gun that is bad, it is the person holding the gun. Banning the toy guns is pointless.

Yea, they need to get over it. Finee the parents or someting, but don't make an intire city pay for it. Toy guns have brigh orange tip (most of them) Even airsoft guns have a bright tip, and it is obveous that it is not a real gun because of tip. They need to just chill.

I think it may logical to ban toy guns in school but not in the whole city. The janitor should have looked more closely at the fake guns before involving the police. It would be extremely hard to find an instance of three elementary school kids bringing real guns to school.

Seriously, the City Council is going overboard. NO MORE WATER GUNS!?! AHH... this sucks for that city. Instead of banning all sales of imititaion guns, why can't city council request the toy companies to not make toys guns that look like real guns out there, so that these incidents will not happen.

Let the kids be kids and let them play. I mean thats what being a kid is all about. The City Council is just overreacting. I bet you when they were kids they played with imitation guns too, so why should they ban them now?

I think this is necessary, because knowing from personal experience these guns look exactly like real guns. A police officer cannot tell the difference between a fake gun and a real gun especially if the child has taken off the orange tip. This will lessen the danger of a kid shot from a misunderstanding.

I feel that the law is doing too much on this topic. I mean the idea of kids from elementary schools bringing guns to their 3rd grade class seems ridiculous already. I don't even think we were even informed about columbine and the threat of guns on campus till we were in middle school. They should like kids still be able to play with immitation firearms.

Okay, it's only banning the SALE of toy guns. Kids can get them anywhere, and seriously, I don't think it's going to make a big difference.
